In addition to attending any of the events listed above there are many ways one can join the Last Stand for America’s WETLAND!
The Keep Your Eye on the Prize competition runs Feb. 2 through May 15. Students from grades K-12, while learning about the critical importance of restoring Louisiana’s coast, will be encouraged to submit original artwork, photographs, or essays on the topic online at www.americaswetland.com. There will be 12 winners, one for each category and age group. First place winners will receive a $300 US Savings Bond, second place winners will receive a $200 US Savings Bond and third place winners will receive a $100 US Savings Bond. Winners will also receive special recognition at the Storm Warning Rally-Concert to be held at the Port of New Orleans on May 30, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Show your support and alert your neighbors to the encroaching hurricane season by placing a Last Stand sign in your yard in May. To learn where to get your sign visit www.americaswetland.com.
Get festive and give your house a Louisiana Wetland themed makeover for the month of May. Send us a photo and we will feature the best on the America’s WETLAND website.
Join the armada and have fun by decorating your boat, which will be judged at the Last Stand for America’s WETLAND flotilla in Houma on Sunday, May 31st. Winners will be featured in an article that will be distributed to media and posted on the America’s WETLAND website.
Write a letter to your congressman or congresswoman on why the wetlands need Federal attention and to urge their support in making this issue a national priority. Drop your un-postmarked letter in bins provided at each of the events to be delivered collectively to your congressperson in Washington, D.C.
Using the “Sound the Alarm” feature found on the Storm Warning page of the America’s WETLAND website, you will be able to alert your friend of the fun while conveying the campaign’s important message.
